One of the joys of being a grandparent is that you do not live with the consequences of your gift selections! I purchased a puzzle for GS 2 that I would have loved as a child. Rows of little doors secured with real fasteners from the hardware store. From an educator perspective, it teaches manipulative skills , problem solving, patience, and handling frustration. This is not easy , as I have experienced it.
Where I saw play power, son, Daddy to GS 2 saw Houdini boot camp. He wanted to know why I would encourage developing the skills needed to operate the deterrents to escape--parental controls.
Because I do not have to live with the consequences ---but mostly because I thought it was pretty cool to have real hardware to play with!
